Get the Headache Relief You Deserve
There can be many different reasons that you’re experiencing headaches and migraines. One of the most common causes of headaches is bruxism, or teeth grinding. Your headaches may not be from an inflamed TMJ (jaw joint) – as patients often believe – but rather strained muscles in your face and head caused by grinding and clenching your teeth. Studies have shown a direct link between bruxism and tension and migraine headaches.
At Michael S. Roessler DDS Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, we have more than one way to treat your migraines and headaches. One common treatment involves having a custom night guard made for you to wear while sleeping. The night guard will gently move your lower jaw forward, easing tension on your jaw joint and preventing you from grinding and clenching your teeth. The result will be that your headaches will be less frequent and less severe.
Another treatment option is a deprogrammer. This device will prevent your back teeth from clenching together or even touching, relieving tension on your jaw joint and muscles. Over time, this custom appliance will even help align your bite into its proper position. With less tension on your muscles, you’ll experience less intense headaches and fewer painful spasms in your jaw.
With either treatment option, you’ll avoid potential damage caused by unchecked teeth grinding. Left untreated, bruxism can wear down your tooth enamel, requiring care from a restorative dentist to correct it.
