Doctor Roessler on Gum Disease Treatment
Good gum health is important in what we do here, in that some people have what’s called gingivitis. Gingivitis is just an inflammation of the gums due to plaque and bacteria getting around the gumline. We remove that here in our office. Sometimes gingivitis can lead to periodontal disease, which is an acceleration of gingivitis, and the breakdown of the actual attachment of the tooth to the gum and the tooth to the bone.
We do provide that kind of therapy called root planing and scaling here in our office, which is the initial therapy or the beginning therapy of treating gum disease. If it progresses to anything further, we do not do surgery here, but I have numerous specialists, periodontists, that I can refer to if a patient cannot completely benefit and get better with the root planing and scaling for their gums.
