Am I a Candidate for Invisalign?
What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is an exciting treatment option for adult patients and teens who are seeking to straighten their teeth without traditional metal braces. Invisalign® orthodontics offer the ability to straighten teeth, move misplaced teeth into a more natural position, and make your smile more beautiful, all without the metal wires and brackets that normally accompany orthodontic treatment. Instead, Invisalign® orthodontics are a series of clear aligners that are worn by the patient, and usually go unnoticed by others around them. Michael Roessler, DDS offers Invisalign® in his Mundelein, IL dental practice to his patients without the need to refer them to an orthodontist specialist.
Am I a candidate for Invisalign®?
How do you know if you are a candidate for Invisalign®? Only your dentist or orthodontist can determine this, as each individual person’s mouth is different. Upon a consultation with Michael Roessler, DDS, your mouth will be evaluated for the type and classification of bite of how your teeth come together, as well as each tooth and it’s current position. Orthodontic treatment not only changes the way you smile, but it can also affect one’s entire facial profile. Your lips, jaws, tooth position and arch sizes will all be evaluated in the beginning stages to determine your treatment process.
For most patients that require only a mild to moderate orthodontic correction, Invisalign® is a wonderful option. Invisalign® also helps to correct several severe cases as well, but because these are much more involved it will vary on a case-by-case basis. Usually Invisalign® orthodontics can be a wonderful option for most of Dr. Michael Roessler’s patients, but for those with severe crowding, missing or unerupted teeth, other treatment steps may be necessary to complete the straightening process apart from, or in addition to Invisalign®.
Because Invisalign® may not be for everyone, a simple evaluation by Dr. Roessler and his staff at our Mundelein, IL practice can determine whether or not you may be a prime candidate.
Why choose Invisalign®?
Dr. Michael Roessler’s patients choose Invisalign® for several reasons. Some reasons that make Invisalign® a popular choice include:
- Comfortable. No wires or brackets.
- Virtually invisible to others.
- The ability to brush and floss as normal.
- No diet restrictions.
How does Invisalign® work?
Upon starting the Invisalign® process with Michael Roessler, DDS at his Mundelein, IL practice, you will have an impression taken of your teeth, photos of your current smile and teeth, as well as a panoramic or full set of x-rays. These images will be used to generate a virtual presentation to show you (the patient) the stages in which treatment will take place and how your teeth should respond to the orthodontic therapy.
Upon acceptance of the Invisalign orthodontic treatment,a custom series of aligners are made to fit your mouth and move your teeth in stages to their desired position. Each set of aligners is worn for about 2 weeks before you move on to the next set of aligners in the series.
The Invisalign® aligners resemble a clear retainer, which is essentially invisible to others that you interact with during the day. Unless you tell them that you’re wearing Invisalign®, chances are they probably won’t even notice. For image conscious patients that want to avoid traditional metal braces, this is one of the biggest reasons why Dr. Michael Roessler’s patients choose Invisalign®.
Invisalign® advises patients to wear their aligners for at least 20 hours each day. The aligners can be taken out for meals and routine oral care like brushing and flossing.
Routine appointments will be about every six weeks in Dr. Michael Roessler’s Mundelein, IL office, where your mouth will be evaluated to make sure they are responding properly to the Invisalign® movements, and that the aligners are fitting properly. Most Invisalign treatment can be accomplished in less than 1 year, far less than conventional braces.
Comfort
Because there are no metal wires or brackets, the smooth, plastic Invisalign® aligners make the process of wearing braces much more comfortable. Each set of alignment trays are made to fit each of Dr. Michael Roessler’s patients individually, so that means Invisalign® won’t rub, poke, or hurt other tissues in your mouth.
Since each set of Invisalign® aligners fits to your teeth in a systematic manner, there is no need for tightening or adjustments that can make your mouth sore such as with traditional braces.
If you are sensitive or allergic to certain types of metal, the plastic Invisalign® aligners won’t cause tissue irritation, taking comfort to an entirely new level.
Eating with Invisalign®
Traditional braces limit what type of foods you can eat as some foods become lodged between brackets easily or may even pose a risk to the braces actually dislodging. Because Invisalign® users remove their aligners to eat, they have no restrictions to their diet. You’ll never have to worry about food getting stuck between your braces and teeth with Invisalign®, so you won’t have to change any of your eating habits.
Keeping your Invisalign® Clean
Because Invisalign® trays are taken out for routine home care, it makes it much easier for Dr. Michael Roessler’s patients to clean around their teeth with traditional brushing and flossing methods. Bracket and wire braces require special devices to clean between teeth. Not only is cleaning around your teeth easier with Invisalign®, but the aligners are easy to keep clean as well. Invisalign® produces a cleanser to clean the aligners, or lukewarm tap water and dish detergent can be used to keep them clean.
Choosing Invisalign®
Because Invisalign® aligners are almost completely unnoticeable, they are a wonderful option to Dr Michael Roessler’s patients who are conscious about esthetic concerns. Invisalign® convenience, speed of treatment, and comfort is second to none. Come visit Dr. Michael Roessler’s Mundelein, IL office for a simple evaluation and consultation to determine if Invisalign® is the orthodontic treatment for you, and begin achieving the smile you’ve always dreamed of.
